New Orlean's Charity Hospital has been the forefront of healthcare since 1939. Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it was determined that this historic hospital should be shuttered and abandoned as a medical facility. However in 2008, the Foundation of Historical Louisiana, charged by a unanimous vote of the Louisiana House Legislature, retained a team led by RMJM Hillier to conduct a Feasibility Study and evaluate the potential of rehabilitating the building into a state-of-the-art hospital facility.
As part of this assessment, VJ Associates was asked to provide cost estimating services. A critical component of the final report was the estimates that concluded that renovation cost would be at least 20% less than construction costs for a new building of similar square footage on a new site.
