Charity Hospital Analysis
New Orlean's Charity Hospital has been the forefront of healthcare since 1939. Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it was determined that this historic hospital should be shuttered and abandoned as a medical facility. However in 2008, the Foundation of Historical Louisiana, charged by a unanimous vote of the Louisiana House Legislature, retained a team led by RMJM Hillier to conduct a Feasibility Study and evaluate the potential of rehabilitating the building into a state-of-the-art hospital facility.
As part of this assessment, VJ Associates was asked to provide cost estimating services. A critical component of the final report was the estimates that concluded that renovation cost would be at least 20% less than construction costs for a new building of similar square footage on a new site. Please see the Foundation's Executive Summary Report for further details.
